There’s no cushion, no tomorrow just 48 minutes to decide who keeps their season alive.
The Orlando Magic return home Friday night with playoff hopes on the line as they face the Charlotte Hornets in a high-pressure play-in showdown. Both teams are closely matched, but only one will advance to the postseason.
Orlando is a team that’s been comfortable in tight games, consistently finding ways to close when it matters most. That late game poise now becomes their identity in a moment where execution outweighs everything else.

Desmond Bane has been one of Orlando’s most reliable scorers, finishing the season at 20.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. His ability to create offense while also making an impact on the perimeter gives the Magic a steady presence in a game that could come down to execution late.
The mindset inside the locker room reflects urgency without panic. Players aren’t chasing perfection they’re chasing effort, physicality, and presence. The goal is simple: control what can be controlled and leave nothing behind when the final buzzer sounds.
For Charlotte, LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Kon Knueppel have given the Hornets a dangerous three-point identity, with the trio producing one of the most productive long-range attacks in the league this season. Ball, Miller, and Knueppel each became major spacing threats, and their shooting has helped define Charlotte’s offensive success.
That perimeter shooting will be a major concern for Orlando, especially after Charlotte won three of the four regular-season meetings between the teams. The Hornets also closed the season strong, winning 18 of their final 25 games and building momentum at the right time.
For the Magic, the formula is straightforward. They must defend the arc, control the pace, and bring the physicality that has carried them in tight situations all year. If Orlando can make Charlotte work deep into the shot clock and limit clean looks from outside, the game could swing in their favor.
The winner advances to face Detroit in the first round of the playoffs, giving this matchup even more weight. With the season hanging in the balance, every possession will matter.
The Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets will tip off today at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the game streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
