Bam Adebayo is adding another achievement to his résumé, this time for the impact he’s making beyond basketball. The Miami Heat big man has been named the 2026 NBA Social Justice Champion, a recognition that reflects years of hands-on work in the community through his Bam, Books & Brotherhood Foundation.

Adebayo will receive the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trophy, along with a $100,000 donation from the league to support his foundation’s mission. The award honors players who are pushing forward Abdul-Jabbar’s longtime commitment to equality, access and opportunity for underserved communities.

For Adebayo, the recognition is tied to more than one season of work. His foundation invested more than $550,000 during the 2025-26 campaign alone, backing programs that reached students, families and young athletes across Miami and beyond.

That included supplying mattresses, uniforms and school materials for students at The SEED School of Miami, covering transportation for more than 19,000 students to the Miami Book Fair and organizing events aimed at opening doors for young people who may not always get those chances. His holiday toy drive at Kaseya Center drew more than 2,000 students and set a Guinness World Record with more than 36,000 toys distributed.

Adebayo also helped address food insecurity with holiday meal giveaways, hosted a Giving Thanks pop-up in Liberty City that provided groceries, clothing, medical services and school supplies, and continued to support youth through his basketball camp and the Liberty City Warriors.

Beyond the large events, the details matter too. From shopping sprees for children in New York to game-day weekends and mentorship experiences for student-athletes from his hometown of Greensboro, Adebayo has built a reputation for being present in the spaces where it counts.

He was also named the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for December earlier this season, marking the 10th time a Heat player has earned that monthly honor.

Adebayo’s latest recognition shows how much consistent community work pays off. It is not just about speaking on social justice but showing up for it in a way that creates real access, and real resource for the next generation.
