Anthony Edwards wasn’t expected back this soon, but he showed up right when Minnesota needed him.

In a tight 104-102 win over San Antonio, Edwards made his return felt without missing a beat. He didn’t ease into things either he stepped in and took control when it mattered most.

Coming off the bench after his knee injury, Edwards still took over down the stretch, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the fourth as the game tightened up. More than anything, his presence settled the group and gave Minnesota a different level of confidence in a game that stayed close the whole way.

After hitting an early three, he let everyone know “I’m back” and played like it the rest of the night.

Minnesota also got a big lift from Julius Randle, who put together a strong double-double, and the team kept answering every Spurs run. It wasn’t flawless, but it was steady when it needed to be.

For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama was everywhere defensively. His 12 blocks and 15 rebounds changed the game, and even in a loss, it felt like one of those performances people will remember.

Still, San Antonio couldn’t finish it off.

They had a final look in the closing seconds, but the shot didn’t fall, and that was it. Close game, but Minnesota held on.

The Timberwolves leave with momentum, and the boost of having their star back while the Spurs are left knowing they let one slip, even with a big-time effort on their end.

This one’s just getting started.
