No. 8 seed Orlando Magic defeated the top-seeded Pistons 112–101 in Game 1. Jalen Suggs set an aggressive tone from the start, opening the game with a three-pointer, and from that moment on, the Magic stayed in front. By the end of the first quarter, they had built a 35–27 cushion, signaling that they weren’t interested in easing into the moment they came ready to take it. Detroit battled back fiercely tying it in the third and turning the fourth into a nail-biter, but Orlando stayed cool under fire, answering every Pistons push without blinking.

Franz Wagner owned the clutch moments, contributing 11 of his 19 points down the stretch to lock it down. When the Magic pushed ahead to 108-106 with three minutes left, you could feel the air leave the building as Pistons fans headed for the exits early.

This wasn’t just a Game 1 win; it was a statement. Orlando now holds a 1–0 series lead and has positioned itself to chase something rare which is to become just the seventh No. 8 seed in NBA history to win a first-round series. The blueprint isn’t unheard of, though. The Miami Heat pulled it off just two seasons ago, turning a similar underdog run into a trip to the Finals.

What makes this even more compelling is how Orlando got here. Their playoff path wasn’t clean. After dropping their first play-in game to Philadelphia, they faced elimination against Charlotte. Instead of folding, they delivered a decisive 121–90 win to secure their postseason spot, and they’ve carried that urgency straight into the playoffs.

The Magic head into Game 2 on Tuesday night in Detroit. Will the Magic defeat Pistons again at home or will the Pistons tie the series? We shall see soon!
