Under those playoff lights, this didn’t feel like just another win for Oklahoma City. It felt like a team growing up right in front of everyone.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t force anything he never really does. He just controlled the game, piece by piece, finishing with 31 points and guiding the Thunder to a 131-122 win over Phoenix to close out the sweep. SGA is just a player who understands exactly when to take over and when to let the game come to him.
And that calm? It’s spreading through the whole team.
You can see it in the way they play. No panic, no wasted movement. Just trust. OKC is now 12-0 in first-round games over the past three seasons, and it doesn’t feel accidental anymore. It feels like identity.
Chet Holmgren looked completely at home, putting up 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while Isaiah Hartenstein did the dirty work 18 points, 12 boards, and the kind of physical presence that wears teams down over time. Together, they didn’t just hold the paint they owned it.
Then there’s the rest of the group, and that’s where OKC really separates itself. Ajay Mitchell stepped in with 22 points like it was expected. Alex Caruso gave them that early spark. Cason Wallace hit a shot late that felt like the moment Phoenix knew it was over.
Because every time the Suns tried to make it interesting, OKC answered.
Phoenix cut the lead, made their run, showed some fight especially behind Devin Booker, who finished with 24. But it never felt like the Thunder were losing control.
That’s what Shai brings. He doesn’t just score he settles everything. A smooth jumper here, a tough layup through traffic there, and suddenly the game feels out of reach again.
For the Suns, it’s a different story. Talent is there, no question. Booker, Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green they all had their moments. Collin Gillespie caught fire early. But it wasn’t consistent. And in the playoffs, that shows.
Now they’re staring at a 10-game postseason losing streak, and that’s not just a stat that’s something that sticks with you.
Meanwhile, OKC moves on, likely toward a matchup with the Lakers. That’s a different level of spotlight, a different kind of test.
But this Thunder team doesn’t look like a group still trying to figure things out anymore.
They look ready.
